Hello darlings, hope you guys are good and hope you loved the
last post ‘cuz I did. Ok so quickly moving on to today’s topic, COLOR BLOCKING,
well most of us must have seen it but we probably concluded that the people doing it are crazy
or don’t know how to dress ,lol ,if u ask me ,I don’t think there’s anything
called color riot anymore, :D Fashion is indeed going crazy. Ok so this trend
isn’t just for the ladies but the guys too, I’m sure you all know J MARTINS, well
if you see his dressing then you already know color blocking (guys I mean). Special thanks to Bookie for helping with this post! Hope
you enjoy this; please feel free to post your comments!
NB: Some of the content of this post was carefully selected
from different style magazines and sites. Enjoy!
COLOR BLOCKING!
Color Blocking is combining different colors that
support and compliment each other.
It is wearing two or three pieces of strong solid colours TOGETHER. It literally means an outfit made up of
'blocks' of solid colour. It combines the use of two or more blocks of
colour in an ensemble. This could be for a top, bottom, tunic, a dress and even
a handbag or shoes. Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or
blocks of solid color next to each other. It can include monotone, bright
colours, muted colors, contrasting and complimentary colors. Clothes, shoes,
handbags and accessories can all feature color block designs or can make up
different blocks of color to be put together for a color block outfit..
The secret to pulling it off is
sticking to simple shapes - think classic shifts, maxis, pencil skirts.
Try clashing pink and yellow, orange and blue, green and black to create the
most effective blocking effect.
You can
build a colour block look by pairing several different garments together, like a
skirt with a shirt and accessories. Or you can look for a dress that already
has the color blocking combination built into the design. Believe it or not,
colour blocking is bright – very very bright indeed!
A rule to stick by when
colour blocking: the boldest and brightest colour should highlight the area of
your body you’d most like to emphasize. Therefore, if you want to draw
attention away from your lower body, wear the brighter colour on top to draw
the eye upward. Use neutrals and less flashy colours to down play the areas
you’d like to de-emphasize.
Also, be sure to keep textures simple and colours
solid in order to properly execute this style without letting it become too
overwhelming.
DO: Choose shades that have the same level of intensity. You can't team
fluro yellow with blah purple – make sure that each piece has the same amount
of grunt otherwise the look will be unbalanced.
DON'T: Add prints, stripes, florals or patterns of any kind when colour blocking an outfit – it's a fast track to circus clown.lol
If you're scared of super bright colours you can try colour toning. Similar to blocking, it uses shades within the same family. Try royal blue and purple or pale green and lemon pastels – it's sophisticated and makes the trend a little more conservative and grown-up.
DO: Opt for neutrals, metallic or black accessories to keep the look
simple and allow the colour to pop.
DON'T: Accessorise with bags and shoes in the same shade as your outfit
– this look belongs to 1985 and it needs to stay there.
Here are some more hues that go great together:
1. Cobalt Blue, Yellow, Orange
2. Chocolate Brown, Pink, Peach
3. Purple, Bright Blue, Teal
4. Deep Blue, Bright Pink,
White
5. Coral, Grey, Ivory
Just keep in mind the following points while
wearing color blocks-
Don’t be shy to experiment. Any color combination is fantastic if you
can pull it off properly. Blue, green and orange sounds mad but will look
oh-so-pretty.
Do not combine more than three to four colors. It’s not that it doesn’t
look nice, but it looks very ‘ramp’ish. Moreover more colors will keep cutting
your body shape here and there making it a not so beautiful sight.
Never ever ever combine two color blocked items. This is the worst thing
to do to this trend. No actually you can, its just that you will end up looking
like the latest catalogue of Asian paints.lol

Colour
blocking or blocking colors whichever you want to call it, is mixing different
colours with the same rhythm. It applies to both guys and girls but nowadays
ladies are in the lead (go girls!).
There's
a thin line between colour blocking and colour "rioting" doe.
Black,
white, brown, caramel and the likes are what I call "background
colours". They either tone an outfit up or tone it down.
Using
white with an outfit, like a white bag or a white belt, you're creating both
balance and also brightening up your entire outfit.
Black
also doesn't make you look too colourful like a rainbow therefore it tones your
outfit down.
Brown
and caramel create a balance in your outfit.
Personally,
I feel the maximum number of colours contained in one outfit shouldn't be more
than five. When blocking, don't use the same colour twice, for example, don't
wear a pink blouse, yellow skirt, pink shoes, yellow bag, you'd just look childish
and funny, trust me, lol.
Thanks
and have fun dressing up!
Xoxo
Ohhhhh! Lord.
